In this new episode, we are delighted to welcome Matthieu Gill-Bougie, Aboriginal Relations Advisor at the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City. A member of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation, he shares with us his background, his commitment and the initiatives put in place to make the museum a key player in recognition and reconciliation with aboriginal peoples.

From the co-creation of exhibitions to the involvement of the younger generation and international partnerships, Matthieu Gill-Bougie looks at the challenges and hopes associated with the promotion of Aboriginal cultures in the contemporary museum landscape.

A sensitive and enlightening exchange on the transformation of cultural institutions towards greater dialogue, respect and authentic representation.

HOST OF THIS EPISODE

Laetitia Conort, Digital Communications Coordinator at the International Council of Museums. Before joining ICOM, Laetitia worked in the field of contemporary creation. After a master’s degree in museology from the Ecole du Louvre and a master’s degree in cultural project management from the Institut d’Etudes Européennes (Paris 8), she specialised in communications and project coordination in the fields of culture and art.

Matthieu Gill-Bougie is Aboriginal Relations Advisor at the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City. After studying anthropology at Laval University, he worked in the fields of cultural activities and Aboriginal health before joining the Museum. Of Quebecois, French and Ilnu ancestry, Matthieu is a member of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh First Nation.
